The candidate for Chisinau mayor of the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” Andrei Nastase, who is supported by the Party “Action and Solidarity”, wants to win the mayoralty by one round of voting. The politician made such statements in the program “Emphasis on today” on TVR Moldova channel, IPN reports.

“We must do our best to win the mayoralty by the first round, also because there won’t be many young people in the city during the runoffs as they will be on vacation or will be busy with the diploma theses,” stated Andrei Nastase.

The candidate said that after he becomes mayor of Chisinau, his major goal will be to consolidate the City Hall, including for the upcoming parliamentary elections. “The participation in these elections will be aimed at increasing the chances of the national, democratic, pro-European and anti-oligarchic forces to enter Parliament and not with 10-20 seats only, but so as to take over and, together with the local administration, to make the big change at national level, in the interests of the people,” added Andrei Nastase.

Vladislav Kulminski, executive director of the Institute for Strategic Initiatives, said the struggle for the seat of mayor of Chisinau municipality will be very harsh as this will represent the preliminary stage of the general campaign prior to the parliamentary elections. “Regrettably, it will be again a geopolitical struggle. We will again try to determine who is together with the West, who is together with the East, who is pro-Russian and who is pro-West,” he stated, noting that the Socialist candidate Ion Ceban, Andrei Nastase and current acting mayor Silvia Radu, who hasn’t yet announced her intention to run for mayoralty, have big chances of reaching the runoffs.

The new mayoral elections in Chisinau municipality will take place on May 20.
