The result of the elections to the European Parliament held in Romania last Sunday, in which the Moldovans with Romanian nationality could also take part, is a very good one. However, the result would have been better if the Romanian authorities had decided to extend the program of polling stations in a number of European cities, including in Moldova, stated the president of the Party “Dignity and Truth Platform” Andrei Năstase, co-president of the Bloc ACUM.

“It is  a very good result. It is a success for us all, for Romania, for Europe,” Andrei Năstase was quoted by IPN as saying in the talk show “Expertise hour” on Jurnal TV channel.

The politician said he is sure the referendum initiated by the President of Romania Klaus Iohannis, in which the Romanian citizens voted last Sunday, will be supported at legislative level. “I understood that a number of political forces in Romania agreed to support President Iohannis’ initiative in Parliament. Something like this is welcome. It was clearly seen in Romania and in the Republic of Moldova as well that the people no longer want criminals in government and in politics,” he stated.

As regards the relations with Romania, Andrei Năstase said Moldova should keep the same course as it is impossible to come closer to the European Union without the Romanian state.

The co-president of the Bloc ACUM expressed his confidence that they will come to terms not only with the MEPs representing the National liberal Party, which is the partner of the Party “Dignity and Truth Platform”  and the Party “Action and Solidarity”, but also with the MEPs of other parties. “We will develop these relations, the cooperation,” he noted.

Andrei Năstase also said they already have discussions with some of the MEPs on roaming services so that the people from the Eastern Partnership countries could talk to those from the EU without large charges. They also consider the possibility of Moldovans travelling in the EU with driver’s licenses issued in Moldova.
