Stability in the Republic of Moldova and maintenance of its European course are essential. In the future, the Moldovan authorities need to confirm the confidence of the European partners and, especially, of the own citizens. Such statements were made by MEP Andi Cristea, who heads the delegation of the European Parliament for the Republic of Moldova. This visited Moldova on May 17-20 on the occasion of the second meeting of the EU – Moldova Parliamentary Association Committee, IPN reports.
According to the press office of the MEP, the program of the visit included meetings with Prime Minister Pavel Filip, Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Andrei Galbur and with representatives of civil society and the extraparliamentary opposition, such as Maia Sandu, Andrei Nastase and Renato Usatyi. He also made a visit to Gagauzia, where he met with Bashkan Irina Vlah.
The official said the confirmation of confidence can take place only by the real, credible and visible promotion of reforms. “Apart from ensuring access to external financing, courageous decisions are needed for removing the structural causes that brought the Republic of Moldova to the current situation. Among the most serious vulnerabilities, I mentioned those from the financial-banking sector, respectively the lack of transparency in bank ownership and operations, corruption, the weakness and excessive politicization of institutions, opaqueness and instability of the business environment. Stability and reforms are two sides of the same coin,” stated Andi Cristea.
The next meeting of the EU – Moldova Parliamentary Association Committee will take place in Brussels on September 26.
