The European Commission’s report on the progress made by Moldova in 2014 must be regarded in Chisinau as a warning signal as there is no time to be wasted in doing reforms, said MEP of the Social Democratic Party Andi Cristea, who heads the European Parliament’s Delegation to the EU - Moldova Parliamentary Association Committee. On March 26, he chaired a working meeting that centered on the current political situation in Moldova and the results of the first meeting of the EU – Moldova Association Council, IPN reports.
According to a press release of the MEP’s office, the report on the progress made by Moldova in 2014 within the European Neighborhood Policy, presented by the European Commission and the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy two days ago, represented a weak point in the meeting’s agenda.
Referring to the European Commission’s report, Andi Cristea said it is an objective report that correctly shows the reality. “I see it as a warning signal for Chisinau - that there is no time to be lost. Chisinau cannot stagnate. The positive things from the report are the result of the work of the previous executive as the current Government was formed recently, after an excessively long period of political negotiations. If we compare this report with the previous reports, it is a less good one,” stated the MEP.
Andi Cristea added that if this report is compared with the reports of other states from the neighborhood, Moldova’s report is above average and is good. The MEP yet addressed a question to Chisinau, concerning what is more important for the country – to be better than other countries or to manage to implement reforms and to anchor itself irreversibly in the European area.
