The second airspace surveillance radar will be delivered to the Republic of Moldova in 2025, the system being now in the process of assembly, said Minister of Defense Anatolie Nosatyi. According to him, this radar will be complementary to the current airspace monitoring system and will ensure the detection of possible dangers, IPN reports.

The minister noted that the second airspace surveillance radar that the Republic of Moldova has procured with the financial support of the European Union is now being assembled. The purchase of the radar was made possible thanks to the European Peace Facility.

“With the support of partners, we achieve new successes in the field of airspace defense in terms of radiolocations, which will allow us to have a better, permanent monitoring of threats to the airspace. The contract was signed and directed to production. I want to make it clear for those who manipulate in this regard. All the equipment that comes to the National Army is new. If we refer specifically to this radar, it is in the process of production. Its components are just being assembled. It is a technical procedure that is not at all simple. We have taken measures to speed up this process, given the high demand for these radars, not only from the Republic of Moldova, but also from other countries,” Anatolie Nosatyi stated in the program “At 360 Degrees” on Radio Moldova.

The official explained that the second radar purchased will be complementary to the airspace monitoring equipment that the Republic of Moldova already uses. The two radars will detect more easily and from a greater distance any dangers to the national airspace.

“We managed to negotiate the delivery of this radar in 2025. Respectively, the National Army servicemen will start training to use this system because it is a new system and requires the training of operators and also of those who will be responsible for technical maintenance, similar to the training received earlier by our servicemen to maintain and operate the previously purchased radar. They are systems that complement each other and together they will ensure better visibility from a much greater distance,” said the Minister of Defense.

On December 20, 2023, the National Army received from France a Ground Master (GM) 200 radar. According to the authorities, the value of the monitoring equipment is about €14 million.
