The Communist Party of Moldova (PCRM) should apologize for the crimes committed by the Bolshevik regime during the former Soviet Union, historian Anatol Petrencu said at the scientific conference “Use of Psychiatry for Political Purposes. Example of the USSR”. Petrencu argued that those crimes were proven and confirmed, while PCRM declares itself inheritor of the Marxist-Leninist regime. Representatives of this party lay flowers to the monument of Lenin and say that the Leninism is a viable teaching in the 21st century. The scientific conference was attended by doctors that practiced psychiatry in the Soviet period and by “patients” that tried to criticize the communist regime of those years and that were isolated and declared mentally ill. The psychiatrists Alexei Masec, Chirila Trofimciuc and others spoke about real cases that happened in the Moldovan Soviet Socialist Republic, when the persons that became inconvenient owing to the statements they made were taken to the psychiatric hospital in Costiujeni or other hospitals of the former USSR, where they could be held for up to ten years. Petrencu told Info-Prim Neo that he was informed about similar cases that happened under the communist government in recent years, but he does not have evidence to support such allegations.
