Anastasia Nikita wins silver at Paris Olympics

Freestyle wrestler Anastasia Nikita won a silver medal at the Paris Olympic Games. The Moldovan athlete lost to Japan’s Tsugumi Sakurai with a score of 0 to 6, IPN reports.

Before reaching the final, the Moldovan fighter defeated Germany’s Sandra Paruszewski, Giullia Penalber of Brazil and Kexin Hong of China.

The athlete was congratulated by President Maia Sandu, who noted that with this performance Anastasia Nikita writes a new page in the history of Moldovan sport.

“Anastasia is the first Moldovan to bring an Olympic silver medal in the history of the Republic of Moldova. Thank you, Anastasia! You had a long and difficult road, but your fighting spirit and the enormous work you put in turned you into a great winner. You are an example for all of us, and especially for the children and young people of Moldova. Really great things are done through a lot of work. The whole country applauds you and is waiting for you at home. Congratulations also to the team of coaches and doctors who were with you,” President Sandu posted on her Facebook page.

Prime Minister Dorin Recean said that Anastasia proved that Moldova has exceptional athletes. “Anastasia Nikita brings home a silver medal from the Paris Olympic Games, proving once again that Moldova has exceptional athletes, with an unwavering fighting spirit and iron determination. Congratulations, Anastasia! You raised the flag of Moldova again on the Olympic podium and we are proud of you!” Premier Recean wrote on Facebook.

Anastasia Nikita is at her second performance at the Olympic Games. She first contended at the Tokyo Olympics, where she ranked seventh.
