Wrestler Anastasia Nikita (57 kg) reached the final of the Paris Olympic Games. She defeated China’s Kexin Hong in the semifinals, executing a counterattack and making the touch, IPN reports.
In the fight for the gold medal, Anastasia Nikita will meet Japan’s Tsugumi Sakura. The final will take place today, August 9, at around 09:30 p.m.
In the 1/8 finals, the wrestler from the Republic of Moldova won against Germany’s Sandra Paruszewski, while in the quarterfinals - Giullia Penalber of Brazil.
The athlete was congratulated yesterday by Prime Minister Dorin Recean. “Anastasia Nikita brings Moldova to the freestyle wrestling final of the Paris Olympic Games. Congratulations, Anastasia, for the excellent performance! An entire country is keeping its fingers crossed for tomorrow’s final! Good luck, Moldova!”, the Premier wrote on Facebook.
It will be for the first time in the history of women’s wrestling in the Republic of Moldova that a Moldovan athlete will climb on to the winner’s rostrum at the Summer Olympics.
