Wrestler Anastasia Nikita and canoeist Sergey Tarnovski received the top awards of the Ministry of Education and Research in a gala held at the Chisinau Arena. The awards were handed over by President Maia Sandu, IPN reports.
Anastasia Nikita this year became European champion and won silver at the World Wrestling Championship. “Winning a medal at the Paris Olympic Games is my major objective at present,” stated the 24-year-old athlete.
Sergey Tarnovski grabbed bronzes at the Canoe Sprint World Championships and at the European Games. “I’m happy that I obtained this title. It is for the first time that I received a trophy from the hands of the President. This makes me be even more motivated for the future,” stated the sportsman.
Judoka Oleg Crețul was named the best Paralympic athlete.
Greco-Roman wrestler Alexandrin Guțu and canoeist Elena Glizan were conferred the “Revelation of the Year” title.
The national football team of Moldova, which struggled for qualification for UEFA EURO 2024, was named the best team of the year.
