After in the electoral period Igor Dodon either ignored the dialogue or preferred to minimalize his main rival, he now wants to have a dialogue and has pieces of advice and solutions for Maia Sandu. He is completing his duties as President and analysts consider he experiences problems in adjusting to the new situation and cannot easily accept the defeat.

Analyst Victor Ciobanu said Igor Dodon’s statements change once in three days or even three times a day. Recently he said he is ready to continue fighting to defend “it’s not clear what”, but suddenly changed his mind and is now ready to concede anything, which is absolutely normal. “If you lost the elections, you normally take your bag and leave. This is the general rule in all the normal countries,” the analyst stated in an interview for RFE/RL’s Moldovan Service, noting he said the Chicu Government will stay, but then said he will support a Cabinet proposed by Maia Sandu.

In another interview, analyst and editorialist Nicolae Negru said it is a signal that there is chaos and confusion in Igor Dodon’s head. “Several days ago, he said the current Government remains and it must be supported and snap parliamentary elections will be organized next autumn, in October. Didn’t he say this? Several days passed and he now says another thing,” stated the analyst.

According to him, this is an electoral move and he thinks about snap parliamentary elections, but is afraid of the responsibility borne in governance as he didn’t govern very well and didn’t manage the pandemic very well, didn’t help the small and medium-sized businesses, if only the large businesses. By such a move, he wants to shift the responsibility for the failures of the Party of Socialists, of the Chicu Government onto Maia Sandu. It is a kind of stratagem that is rather primitive.

Nicolae Negru noted that Igor Dodon before the presidential elections didn’t want snap parliamentary elections and now also does not want these. “The sympathies of an electoral segment went away from the Party of Socialists, from Dodon now that he suffered a bitter and clear defeat and the results of the snap parliamentary elections can be unfavorable for the Socialists and for Dodon. He will thus try to place obstacles, but this will also depend on Shor and Plahotniuc,” stated Nicolae Negru.
