Cyberattacks in the context of the amplification of hybrid threats have grown explosively in Moldova. Governmental agencies have a lot of work to do to increase the resilience of information systems to such threats, stated Interior Minister Ana Revenco during a press briefing held after the meeting of the MoI board.
“Specialists, in cooperation with all the specialized subdivisions do everything that is needed to address such attacks. Additional measures are being taken to allow us to gradually strengthen the level of resilience of these systems to such threats”, said Ana Revenco.
According to the minister, cyberattacks as part of hybrid threats represent an atypical phenomenon for Moldova's security system, as our public information systems “have been calibrated for peacetime”.
MP Lilian Carp, chair of the security and defense committee, praised the MoI for “successfully” dealing with these challenges so far. The official added that more needs to be invested in national security, including cybersecurity, because “hybrid wars, which are being thought of lately, also involve cyberattacks”.
Over the past few days, a series of cyberattacks on 80 public systems have been fought off with “minimal impact” on their functionality.
