Voter corruption acts were allegedly witnessed during the first round of the snap mayoral elections held in the municipality of Bălți. Minister of the Interior Ana Revenco said they notified the Central Election Commission (CEC) of cases of electoral fraud and this information is to be verified, IPN reports.

Ana Revenco made it clear that the elections in Bălți were held with deviations from the electoral legislation. The police furnished information about supposed illegalities committed in the election campaign to the CEC. The official refused to provide details about the alleged illegalities, saying it is the duty of the Commission to probe the possible violations.

“The police informed the CEC about electoral fraud in accordance with the legislation on the activity of the police. Following these reports, the Commission will verify the information,” Ana Revenco stated in the talk show “Black Box” on TV8 channel.

The minister noted that in the process of determining the correctness of party and election campaign funding, the CEC is assisted by representatives of a number of state institutions.

“To verify such information, the Central Election Commission constituted a group of specialists that includes representatives of a number of authorities, such as the State Tax Service, the Security and Intelligence Service and the police. However, the CEC has the prerogative to verify this information,” said Ana Revenco.

In the first round of the snap mayoral elections in Bălți, the representative of Șor Party Marina Tauber polled 47.9% of the vote. Former acting mayor Nicolai Grigorișin ranked second with almost 21% of the ballot. A runoff vote will be held in Bălți on December 5.
