Ana Guțu named secretary of state in Government of Romania

University professor Ana Guțu, the current vice president of the National Unity Party (PUN), was named secretary of state in the Department for Relations with the Republic of Moldova by the Prime Minister of Romania Ludovic Orban, MEP Eugen Tomac announced through his Facebook page.

“It is a powerful message that our country transmits to the Romanians over the Prut. I must thank Premier Ludovic Orban for respecting the undertaken commitment and for creating this first governmental body with an essential role in fostering the relations between the two states with a common past and future,” wrote Eugen Tomac, being quoted by IPN.

In a comment on a social networking site, Ana Guțu said she accepts the post with special honor. “I express my firm conviction that together with all the colleagues from the Government and Parliament of Romania, we will manage to contribute to approaching the two sides of the Prut by efficient cooperation, for the benefit of all the citizens of the Republic of Moldova,” stated Ana Guțu.

Currently, Ana Guțu is the president of the Higher Institute of French Studies, associate professor in the Doctoral School of Romano-German Linguistic Studies and Universal and Comparative Literature of the State University of Moldova and an Honorific Member for life of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe since 2015. She founded and headed the political party The Right (2015-2017) and served as a member of Moldova’s Parliament.
