An average Moldovan uses nearly 15 cu.m. of water a year

An average water consumer in Moldova used 14,9 cubic meters of water last year, the National Statistics Bureau reported. Urban consumers account for as much as 92.2 percent of the total delivered water while the rural consumers for the remaining 7.2 percent. In the Moldovan capital, Chisinau, the annual water consumption per person was 50.5 cubic meters, while in the Gagauz autonomy it stood at 7.4 cubic meters. Last year 600 new water provision systems were installed throughout the country, 493 of which are publicly owned. Of the total number of aqueducts only 465, or 77.5 percent, are working. Over the last seven years, the share of the sewer systems in the water provision system hasn't exceeded 39 percent. Water loss, including amounts unmeasured by water meters, was as high as 36.4 percent of the delivered amount. The daily wastewater treatment capacity was 723,000 cubic meters.
