Among the 94 persons diagnosed with COVID-19 are medical workers and border police officers. Minister of Health, Labor and Social Protection Viorica Dumbrăveanu said that these persons are in the front line and are exposed to the risk of infection, IPN reports.

After the March 23 meeting of the National Focal Point, the minister said the healthcare workers are also exposed to risks because of the patients who do not provide true data. A case of the kind happened at Hospital No. 1, where a mother hospitalized with her child hid the fact that she had been in contact with a person who returned from a country stricken by COVID-19.

“She benefited from treatment at medical-sanitary institutions for several days. Only after we conducted an epidemiological questionnaire and determined the circle of persons who had been in contact with the family’s father and had a more intense dialogue with the mother, she admitted. But she had already exposed to risks the medical workers who struggled for the life and health of her child,” stated Viorica Dumbrăveanu.

The minister noted that 38 of the 94 cases of infection with COVID-19 were imported from Italy, the UK, Ukraine, France, Russia, and Switzerland. The others are cases of local transmission and most of these were recorded in the municipality of Chisinau.

As many as 80 patients diagnosed with COVID-19 are receiving treatment at the Infectious Diseases Hospital “Toma Ciorbă”. Ten of them are in a serious state. Another two persons whose state is worsening were admitted to the National Clinical Hospital.

Eight children remain hospitalized and their state is medium grave.

Viorica Dumbrăveanu called on the citizens to be responsible, to present true information and to take measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

A state of emergency was declared in Moldova for a period of 60 days as of March 17. As many as 94 persons infected with COVID-19 have been confirmed in Moldova so far.  An infected woman died, while two infected persons are considered cured.
