Moldova's acting President Marian Lupu requested the Ministry of Justice to prepare a draft law granting general pardon to certain groups of convicts to mark the twentieth anniversary of Moldova's Independence on August 27, the President's Office said in a press release, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. Among the groups of convicts that will be considered for amnesty are women offenders, in particular those who are pregnant or have dependents, especially young children or disabled family members, as well as elderly or disabled women convicts. After being developed by the Ministry of Justice, the draft law will be submitted to Parliament for consideration and then to the President for promulgation. Similar measures were adopted to mark the 5th and the 10th anniversaries of Independence.
