Moldova Noastra Alliance (AMN) president Serafim Urecheanu suggests the ruling Alliance for European Integration (AEI) should field a common candidate for president, have a common electoral ticket and hold parliamentary elections separately from the presidential poll, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Urecheanu told a news conference on Tuesday that the candidate for president could be someone from the four-party AEI, for instance Democrat leader Marian Lupu, as well as someone outside of it. Urecheanu, however, criticized Lib-Dem leader Vlad Filat for “proclaiming himself” a presidential candidate without prior consultations with the members of the Alliance. “We have to give up personal and narrow group ambitions if we want to save this suffering nation”.
Speaking about the upcoming constitutional referendum, Urecheanu said all the component parties of the AEI should demonstrate total engagement in order to bring as many voters as possible to the polling stations on September 5 and make the referendum representative. “The AMN supports the referendum, which will give back the right to elect the president to the people”. However, Urecheanu said there were faults in the cooperation among the component parties of the AEI, urging its leaders to refrain from scandals and calling them to understanding and good judgment.
Urecheanu warned the AEI members that if they failed to unite, a comeback of the Communists to power was very possible. A common electoral slate in the legislative elections and a common presidential candidate, according to him, would be a solution for the dissensions among the Alliance.
