AMN quits parties' expo

The Moldova Noastra Alliance (AMN) left today its stand at the exhibition of political parties “Partide.md” to protest the “biased coverage” of the event in the public media, said AMN vice president Veaceslav Untila at the opening of Parliament's sitting on Thursday, December 4, Info-Prim Neo reports. “Yesterday the chairman of the Broadcasting Coordination Council (BCC), Gheorghe Gorincioi, promised us that the opposition would be treated fairly by the media. Yet in the evening news on the public television there was a single party – the Party of Communists – with its crazy slogan”, said Untila. The AMN faction suggested that the president of the Teleradio-Moldova Company (e.n.: the national broadcaster) should be summoned to appear before Parliament to explain why the public television brought into the spotlight exclusively the Communists Party in its news reports on the parties' exhibition, which was attended by as many as 14 political groups, including seven represented in Parliament. The leader of the Democratic Party, MP Dumitru Diacov, also remarked the lack of objectiveness of the journalists at the public television. “At the last elections the Communists Party polled 35 percent of the popular vote; 55 percent of the population voted for other parties. These people pay taxes from which Teleradio is financed. Then why does the public television stops at just one stand?”, asked Diacov rhetorically. The proposal to summon Teleradio's president was eventually voted down by the majority Communist faction. The Partide.md Expo is a two-days event taking place during December 3 and 4 at the Republic's Palace. The event is organized by the Central Election Commission and the Association for Participatory Democracy ADEPT.
