“Moldova Noastra” Alliance (AMN) pleads for correct and democratic elections in Gagauzia and calls on the candidates, political forces and the government not to allow any frauds, the leader of the formation, Serafim Urecheanu, told a press-conference on Wednesday, November 15. In his appeal addressed to voters, diplomatic missions and political parties, AMN says that the current government utilizes at a maximal rate administrative resources in order to promote the candidature supported by the Communists’ Party in the elections for governorship scheduled for December 3. According to AMN, despite the frauds committed during the local elections of 2003 and parliamentary ones in 2005, international bodies accepted their results, showing indulgence towards PCRM, hoping that it will align with international norms and rigors. Communists, though, deceived these hopes and continue the practice of rigging elections, that of using administrative resources and suppressing political opponents, the appeal says. AMN calls on candidates to show a correct and equitable campaign, and on the voters, political parties and NGOs – not to allow the rigging of the elections by the actual government. On the other hand, international organizations are urged to contribute to the organization of a correct equitable campaign. Central Electoral Commission is solicited to assure equal conditions for all the candidates, and the government party, local and central executive bodies – to abstain from using administrative resources for promoting the government supported candidate. AMN will continue to monitor the organization of elections in Gagauzia. Several political formations from the R. of Moldova claimed violations of the legislation during the electoral campaign. The head of the OSCE Mission, Ambassador Louis O’Neill declared after a visit to the region that “current elections will represent a test not just for Gagauzia, but also for the entire R. of Moldova”. 4 candidates have been registered in the electoral race.
