The general assembly of the Moldova Noastra Alliance (AMN) on Saturday, April 9, endorsed the party's merger with the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM). AMN leader Serafim Urecheanu said Moldova Noastra chose PLDM because they shared common values, doctrines and goals. Attending the event, Liberal Democrat leader Vlad Filat described the merger as “historic”. “We were a democratic party, a party with uprightness that contributed to the establishment of a democratic government”, declared Serafim Urecheanu. He added that the merger with PLDM brought about a solid party, well organized and reinforced for a better governance in Moldova. The merger was endorsed by 297 AMN delegates attending the assembly, and only one member abstained – former ICT Minister Alexandru Oleinic. He told reporters that he would reveal his reasons on a later occasion and that he was not intending to join some other party. Vlad Filat said AMN's merger with PLDM was a courageous decision based on both sound judgment and emotions. “We want this to be a consolidated party, and this means communication and discussion of all issues. This makes me look at Moldova's future with more confidence”, declared Vlad Filat. Speaking about the upcoming local elections, Vlad Filat said he was confident that their party was the best and that PLDM's candidate, who is yet to be announced, would win the mayoral race in Chisinau. PLDM will hold a similar assembly on Sunday.
