The local organizations of the Moldova Noastra Alliance (AMN) in four districts defected from the party to the Democratic Party (PDM). A statement announcing this was issued by the heads of the AMN branches in Soroca, Ialoveni, Floresti, and Soldanesti, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“The 1,060 members of the Moldova Noastra Alliance local organizations in Soroca, Ialoveni, Floresti, and Soldanesti are bitterly disappointed at the liquidation of the party, which struggled with the Communist government for over eight years. After the elections of 2003, 2005, and 2007, it made a significant contribution to the democratization the country and proved stability of positions and consistency in its actions,” it is said in the statement.
“Owing to the AMN, whose representatives became heads of more than half of Moldova’s districts as a result of the local elections of 2007, the Democratic parties removed the Communists from power in more than two thirds of the villages. After the parliamentary elections of 2009, the AMN played one of the most important roles in the formation of the Alliance for European Integration,” say the authors of the statement.
They express their indignation and dissociate themselves from the liquidation of “one of the few solid political parties”. They describe the actions of the party’s leader Serafim Urechean as betrayal of the team that had been near him at all the stages.
“The recent congress of the party where the Alliance merged with the PLDM showed that the AMN members were used only to initiate a new PR campaign for the PLDM. We are convinced that the members of the AMN who efficiently headed the local organizations during many years will be replaced with members of the PLDM. We thus decided to join a party that we believe is able to ensure true internal democracy and equal chances for our teams to share the experience accumulated during 15 years. We support the position of the Democratic Party of Moldova and are sure that only this party can ensure the sustainable development of Moldova and social balance,” reads the statement.
Last weekend, the congress of the AMN decided that the party will merge with the Liberal Democratic Party, while the congress of the PLDM accepted the merger by absorption.
