Director general of the Chisinau Mortgage Agency (AMIC) Petru Pripa said it is not correct that the newly built blocks are less safe than those erected half a century ago. AMIC uses building materials of a high quality and this enables it to offer a 100-year guarantee for the buildings constructed by it, IPN reports.

“In the construction sector, as in other areas, there is a normative framework. The observance of this framework ensures the necessary quality of constructions. However, the dwellers sometimes intervene illegally in the portable structure of the block, in the ventilation systems, etc. They consider that they do it better, but in fact affect the building’s equilibrium,” said the director of AMIC.

According to Petru Pripa, the prices of apartments in old buildings started to decrease and it’s logical to be so given that many of them are in need of expensive repair works and thermal insulation, including having the windows changed. Those who intend to purchase a new house are concerned more about the infrastructure than about the place where the building is located. “The people put emphasis on quality and architecture, not on location,” said Petru Pripa.

He added that the high interest rates on loans make the purchase of new dwellings difficult, even in installments. AMIC is thinking up a leasing project to partially or fully pay the interest so as to offer more chances of buying apartments to those on low incomes.

“Homebuilding created and will create many workplaces. Thus, ten workplaces in the construction sector create another nine jobs in the service sector: transport, furniture, water, energy, etc. It may seem that these things are well known, but one should know that until cranes move, society is developing. If they stop, it will be a bad sign for society,” said the director general of the Chisinau Mortgage Agency.
