American Film Festival to open in Chisinau

Fourteen comedies will be presented to the Moldovan public within the seventh edition of the American Film Festival that opens at the Gaudeamus Cultural Center on April 19, at 18:00, IPN reports.

The event will be opened by “Some Like It Hot” (1959). It stars Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon. The comedy will be also shown on April 25.

The minors will have access to some of the movies only if they are accompanied by parents. These are: “Up” 2009 (April 20 and 21), “Annie Hall” 1977 (April 20), “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days” 2012 (April 20), and “Big”1988 (April 24).

Minors under 17 are not allowed to watch “The Hangover” 2009 (April 22), while “As Good As It Gets “1997 (April 20 and 24) and “The Goonies” 1985 (April 21) are not recommended to minors.

Access to the other films, including “Duck Soup”1933 (April 21), “It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World” 1963 (April 21), “What’s Up Doc?” 1972 (April 22), “The General” 1926 (April 23), “European Vacation” 1985 (April 23), and “Office Space” 1999 (April 25), is free.

According to the manager of the Gaudeamus Cultural Center Lidia Troianowski, all fourteen movies will be screened in English, with Romanian subtitles. The theme of this year’s festival is “Comedy Through Years”. The festival, organized by the U.S. Embassy in Moldova, lasts for a week. Entrance is free of charge. Last year’s festival featured 12 movies.
