The Second American Film Festival in Moldova has started Friday evening in Chisinau with George Stevens’ classic Western “Shane”.
At this year’s edition the U.S. Embassy in Chisinau invites everyone to discover or rediscover the American Westerns. A total of 10 films will be featured this year ranging from Black&Whites from the 1930s to more recent ones in full color.
Legendary directors like John Ford, Howard Hawks and equally legendary giants of the silver screen like John Wayne, James Stewart, and Clint Eastwood are also featured in the series. This year, in addition to Chisinau, residents of Balti, Cahul and Ungheni and the surrounding regions will also have an opportunity to participate in this event.
Entrance to all the showings is free of charge.
“Although they reflect the American life, the message of these movies is accessible to the Moldovan audience too. Westerns perpetuate values like freedom and fighting for justice. By seeing them, I hope the Moldovan audience will learn more about the American society”, U.S. Embassy’s Deputy Chief of Mission Kelly Keiderling said at the opening ceremony.
The second edition of the festival will run from September 21 to 27.
Movie showtimes are listed on the webpage of the diplomatic mission moldova.usembassy.gov.
The First American Film Festival (2006) featured musicals.
