The decree to promulgate the law to amend and supplement the Broadcasting Code was signed by Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu in the morning of January 10. It happened after the Constitutional Court ascertained the circumstances that justify the suspension of the President of Moldova from office so that this law could be promulgated by the Speaker or the Prime Minister, IPN reports.
The bill to amend the Broadcasting Code proposed by the MPs of the Democratic Party and the European People’s Party of Moldova was readopted by Parliament in two readings on December 7, 2018. The new norms included in the Broadcasting Code are aimed at ensuring the protection of consumers of information from eventual misinformation or manipulation attempts from abroad. Another goal is not to allow media provocations aimed against the Republic of Moldova.
The law allows for the retransmission only of news, feature, military and political radio and television programs produced in the EU member states, the U.S., Canada and in the states that ratified the European Convention on Transfrontier Television.
The Constitutional Court ascertained the circumstances that justify the suspension of the President from office so that the given law could be promulgated by the Parliament Speaker or the Prime Minister on January 5, 2018.
