The application concerning ambulances filed to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) will be tried soon, the Moldova Noastra Alliance (AMN) leader Serafim Urecheanu said, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. “On January 30, I made a trip at the invitation of the lawyers that represent me in the ECHR. The ambulances case will be examined in the near future and the state will have to pay all the pecuniary and non-pecuniary damages,” Serafim Urecheanu said on Monday, February 2.
According to Urecheanu, the money will be sent to kindergartens or orphanages. “Regrettably, Moldova will be once again punished for the case opened by the blind fulfiller Mister Gurbulea (Moldova’s Prosecutor General Valeriu Gurbulea – e.n.) at the instructions of Mister Voronin (Moldova’s President Vladimir Voronin – e.n.), the AMN leader said.
The ambulances case was initiated on July 30, 2004. The former mayor general of Chisinau was accused of committing violations and defrauding the municipal budget when buying 40 Volkswagen ambulances from Rumeon Company.
Urecheanu lodged a complaint with the ECHR in December 2006, after the Panel of Centru Court headed by Nadejdei Mazur ordered continuing prosecuting Urecheanu even if the Supreme Court of Justice decided to close the case.
On May 26, 2008, Serafim Urecheanu was acquitted by the Centru Court. In September 2008, the Prosecutor’s Office appealed the Centru Court’s decision to the Chisinau Court of Appeals.
