The National Ambulance Day was instituted in the Republic Moldova. It will be celebrated annually on October 2. This way, the authorities aim to draw society’s attention to the importance of the rescue measures and of increasing citizens’ responsibility for protecting the own life and the lives of those around, IPN reports.

In October 2023, it will be 20 years of the founding of the emergency medical assistance service whose coordination is ensured by the National Pre-Hospital Emergency Medical Assistance Center. At present, the prehospital emergency medical services system has about 5,600 employees who annually deal with approximately 1 million requests. According to the Ministry of Health, the service is essential also in exceptional cases, such as pandemic, earthquakes, floods, refugee crises or war.

The Ambulance Day is celebrated in a number of European states, including Romania, through events that involve the population, medical institutions, the authorities and nongovernmental organizations.
