Ukraine looks with great respect and gratitude at what Moldova is doing: hosting a large number of refugees, providing political, humanitarian and other kinds of support; they see us as a reliable partner, declared Moldova’s ambassador to Ukraine Valeriu Chiveri in an interview after the annual ambassadorial convention last week.

“It is very important that the messages of the country’s leadership, the ministry’s leadership reach all the Moldovan ambassadors to help them adjust their objectives in accordance with the national interest of the Republic of Moldova, taking into account the security situation at our borders”, the ambassador declared.

Asked what the priorities are for the next period, Valeriu Chiveri said that it is important to facilitate as much as possible the assistance offered by Moldova to Ukraine, be it political, humanitarian, or support to the transit of Ukrainian goods through Moldovan territory. At the same time, the diplomat notes that there are issues that have been put on the backburner because of the war, but which remain important, such as border demarcation, Moldovan property in Ukraine, or the Romanian-speaking community, “who is numerous in Ukraine and who we should also take care of and give them all the necessary support”, said Valeriu Chiveri.

The ambassador says that the bilateral relationship with Ukraine has reached a very high level not only in political terms, but also at the level of sectoral ministries. “They see in us a reliable partner”, emphasized Valeriu Chiveri.

Ukraine today celebrates its Independence Day, marking the proclamation of the country’s independence from the Soviet Union thirty-two years ago.
