The Ambassador of the Netherlands to Romania and, simultaneously, to Moldova Stella Ronner-Grubačić said no matter what the result of the parliamentary elections in the Republic of Moldova is, this should reflect the real will of the Moldovan people. At the end of a visit paid to Chisinau in connection with the upcoming elections, alongside other ambassadors, the diplomat said the ambassadors want to convince themselves that these elections will be held in accordance with the highest international standards, IPN reports.
Stella Ronner-Grubačić said any visit they pay to Moldova is focused on two goals – to bring and to take. The ambassador said she will take as much information as possible, especially now that the election campaign is to start. In this connection, together with other diplomats, they set the goal of meeting with political parties, candidates, representatives of the Central Election Commission and other authorities so as to realize the situation on the spot and how support could be provided in this regard.
As to the eventual findings or observations, the ambassador said it is too early to pronounce. Moreover, a number of election monitoring missions to Moldova were designated. These will do their job and will then pronounce on the developments.
“What interests us is to make indeed sure that penalties follow when hate speech is heard somewhere or if the clearly set down rules of the game are not fully respected. There is a national legislation in this regard and this should be respected. Or there are electoral bodies and courts of law that should intervene and pronounce by decisions,” noted Stella Ronner-Grubačić.
