Japan’s Ambassador to Moldova, with residence in Kiev, Toichi Sakata handed over the documents for the “Bibliobus” – the first mobile library in Moldova – to the administration of the National Children’s Library “Ion Creanga”, IPN reports.
“We received an application from Moldova from which we found out about such a necessity. There is a tradition in Japan for the administration to become involved in the organization of such libraries for children. If Moldova makes a new such approach, we will get involved,” said the ambassador.
Attending the event, Minister of Culture Monica Babuc said she is glad that from now on the children in Moldova will enjoy such a service. “The “Bibliobus” has a very good book collection. It is also outfitted with modern technology, including computers and Internet connection. This is a nice project that is implemented with the support of the Embassy of Japan in Kiev. Today, Ambassador Toichi Sakata came personally to Chisinau to hand over the official documents for this bus,” she stated.
Director of the National Children’s Library “Ion Creanga” Claudia Balaban said that US$94,000 was invested in the project to support and promote books for chidden. The money was provided by the Embassy of Japan.
The National Children’s Library “Ion Creanga” launched the first mobile library in Moldova in the middle of June. It represents a minibus with over 1,000 books that travels to promote reading among children from Moldova’s villages.
