Japan’s Ambassador in Chisinau, with residence in Kiev, Shigeki Sumi considers that Moldova is attractive for tourists. In a move to promote the country, the diplomat intends to convince as many Japanese tourists as possible to vacation in Moldova. The diplomat informed about his intentions in a meeting with Head of Parliament Andrian Candu, IPN reports.
According to the Parliament’s press service, Shigeki Sumi reiterated Japan’s readiness to support Moldova and his personal support for developing the bilateral parliamentary relations. “It is important to extend the Moldovan-Japanese cooperation in different areas, while the Republic of Moldova should benefit from powerful lobbying in Japan’s Parliament,” said the ambassador.
Within the discussions, Andrian Candu said that Japan is an important development partner. “The projects that are financially supported by Japan, especially in the economic sector, are successful in Moldova and are appreciated first of all by the businessmen and farmers,” stated the Speaker. According to him, the Japanese investors can find in Moldova attractive platforms for developing businesses and, respectively, for exporting products to the EU market.
Andrian Candu underlined the importance of opening negotiations for signing the agreement for the avoidance of double taxation with respect to taxes on income and the agreement on reciprocal promotion and protection of investments between Moldova and Japan.
In 1992-2010 Japan offered Moldova US$72.7 million in assistance and loans to the value of US$48.2 million.
