“Lithuania has always supported and firmly supports Moldova’s European choice,” said Lithuania’s Ambassador to Moldova Rimantas Latakas. According to him, for sustainable changes that everyone could feel, it is important to continue targeted efforts towards the implementation of reforms and the creation of a democratic and free state, IPN reports.
The statements were made in a reception held on the occasion on the 27th anniversary of the restoration of Lithuania’s independence. “27 years ago, we took one of the most significant historic steps – we restored Independence of Lithuania and regained our Freedom. On the 11th of March 1990 we firmly turned towards democracy. Independence was the goal that united the nation and provided resilience towards temporary difficulties. Therefore, this prominent date reminds us that it is only because of our unity we can enjoy freedom, and only by working together, we can achieve a lot,” said the diplomat.
Rimantas Latakas stated that although the 27 years of Freedom are just a flash in the history of a state, these were the years of Lithuania’s growth and state strengthening. “Commemorating this very important date for us, we always remember Moldova that had the courage to be the first to recognize Lithuania’s independence. Lithuania and Moldova are linked by long-running bonds of friendship, and this year we will commemorate the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between our countries,” he said.
The official noted that Lithuania has always supported and firmly supports Moldova’s European choice. A lot has already been achieved on this way – citizens of the Republic of Moldova can enjoy the benefits of visa-free travel, the Association Agreement with the EU has entered into force, the full implementation of which will have positive changes in peoples‘ everyday life.
“However, for the sustainable changes that everyone could feel, it is important not to lose determination and to continue targeted efforts towards the implementation of reforms and the creation of a democratic and free state. Lithuania has experienced that all the efforts put for the implementation of sometimes painful and unpopular reforms pay off. It strengthens the country’s independence, stimulates economic growth, attracts investments and improves people’s lives,” stated Rimantas Latakas.
He also said that therefore, having successfully completed this way full of challenges, Lithuania is ready to share its experience and to continue to provide multifaceted assistance for Moldova.
