Members and supporters of the Liberal Party (PL) on June 7 came together in the Great National Assembly Square of Chisinau to support Dorin Chirtoaca, who is running for a new term as mayor general of Chisinau municipality. When supporters of the Civic Platform “Dignity and Truth” (“DA”) arrived in the Square too, to take part in a protest against the government, the two camps clashed, IPN reports.
Dissatisfied that the Liberals occupied the Great National Assembly Square of Chisinau, the supporters of the platform booed the leaders of the PL, who mounted the stage, and the artists who sang in support of Dorin Chirtoaca. In reaction, Dorin Chirtoaca said the PL reserved the Square for this date in May 2012 because he knew that it will be an electoral period now.
The candidate accused the platform “DA” of pursuing hidden goals, saying it is led from behind by the brothers Victor and Viorel Topa, who took out loans from Banca de Economiii among the first and didn’t repay them. He also said that those who are behind the “DA” were also behind the privatization of Euro TV Chisinau and the radio station Antena C.
Dorin Chirtoaca promised that the Liberals will bring things in the country in order and will jail those who stole the US$1billion after the PL wins the June 14 local general elections and the parliamentary elections of 2018.
The Liberal leader Mihai Ghimpu replied to those who booed the supporters of the PL, saying they should better cross the Nistru River to Transnistria, calling them “Moscow’s people”. He also said that he is for removing the government, but it seems to him that somebody aims to bring ‘Putin’s government’ through Dodon and Usatyi by such protests.
The Liberal leader noted that in the next sitting of Parliament, he will suggest annulling the immunity of Vladimir Voronin, Vlad Filat and Marian Lupu, while the prosecutor general should decide if someone of these must be arrested for the theft of the US$1 billion.
