Almost half a million citizens voted by noon

Nearly half a million people voted at the over 1,950 polling stations established in the country by midday. This is 17.89% of the voting-eligible citizens. A number of 111,000 voters cast their ballots in the municipality of Chisinau, with the turnout there being 14.31%, IPN reports.

Women remain more active than the men. The ratio of female voters to mate voter was 52.92%:47.08%. The people aged between 56 and 65 remained the most active voters with a turnout of almost 27%. The persons aged between 18 and 25 constituted only almost 4%. 

The threshold for local elections is 25% of the voting-eligible population.

More than 2.7 million voters are expected to cast a vote today. Polls close at 9 p.m.
