Last year, almost each second contravention was a road traffic violation. The fine was the main penalty imposed for violations. More than 426,000 violations were recorded last year, by over 24,000 fewer than in 2017, IPN reports, quoting the National Bureau of Statistics.
Speeding is one of the most often infringements. In 2018, penalties for speeding were imposed in almost 119,000 cases. Most of the penalties in the form of deprivation of particular rights were imposed for leaving the place of the accident – 542 penalties. As many as 1,000 persons were held accountable for driving under the influence.
The road traffic violations are followed by infringements related to entrepreneurship, taxation, customs activity and real estate. These represented 12.2%, a decrease of 5.6% on 2017. The contraventions related to public order and security constituted 9.3%, down 26.3% on 2017.
The ratio of penalties to the population is of 116 to 1,000 on average. The national fine collection rate is under 43%. A sum of 129.4 million lei of the imposed fines was collected.
