Of the 3,602 funeral crosses placed on the side of national and local roads, 3,174 have been taken away. The State Road Administration said 428 funeral crosses are yet to be removed, IPN reports.
The funeral crosses set up along the roadside in the towns of Balti, Falesti, Causeni, Stefan Voda, Basarabeasca, Chisinau, Criuleni, Hancesti, Nisporeni, Rezina Drochia, Glodeni, Soroca, Soldanesti, Straseni and Ungheni have been fully removed. No such crosses have been done away with on roads in the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia.
According to the State Road Administration, by three crosses are yet to be removed in Sangerei, Rascani and Sanatauca and by two in Cahul, Cantemir and Cainari. By seven crosses are to be taken away in Taraclia and Calarasi, eight in Orhei and by ten in Anenii Noi and Floresti.
In Edinet, there will be yet removed 19 crosses, in Dubasari, Cimislia, Donduseni, Ialoveni and Telenesti 20 crosses, in Ocnita 25 crosses, in Leova 40, while in Briceni 45. Most of the funeral crosses were placed along the roadside in Ialoveni – 214, Falesti – 166 and Ungheni – 157.
The Ministry of Transport and Road Infrastructure last August made an order to remove all the funeral crosses and stones located on the roadside within six months.
