Immunization against influenza in the public health facilities of Moldova continues. So far, more than 68% of the total doses received have been administered. According to the National Public Health Agency, cases of seasonal flu have not been registered so far. However, the number of upper respiratory tract infections has increased, IPN reports.

The Agency’s data show that 5,184 cases of upper respiratory tract infections were recorded between October 21 and October 27, mostly in children (64%). There is an increase of 21.4% compared to the previous week, but a decrease of 16.2% compared to the same period of the previous season.

Last week, 67 cases of COVID-19 were registered (including 10 in the Transnistrian region). In the case of this infection, there is a decrease of 23% compared to the previous week. Eighteen cases were reported in children up to 14 years old.

Public health specialists recommend concomitant vaccination against seasonal flu and infection caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. According to them, seroprotection is generally achieved within two or at most three weeks after vaccination. The duration of post-vaccination immunity varies between 6 and 12 months.

The Agency reiterates that the benefits of vaccination are significant. It is also essential for the population to adopt personal hygiene measures, such as washing the hands with soap and water, using handkerchiefs when sneezing or coughing, maintaining a healthy lifestyle, including a diet rich in vegetables and fruit, adequate rest and regular exercise.
