Almost 50% of the respondents to a survey believe that the authorities of the Republic of Moldova are actually responsible for the situation of the energy crisis. At the same time, 24% of those surveyed consider the Russian company Gazprom or the Russian Federation tare to blame for the energy crisis. Another 14% point to Ukraine, and 7% consider all those listed are guilty. These are the results of the survey "Sociopolitical Barometer February 2025" presented by IMAS.

" I think important conclusions can be drawn from these results, especially in terms of communication. Of course, those responsible can think about whether the Government's communication campaign was effective. These are the perceptions that resulted from the communication method chosen by the executive,"  IMAS director Doru Petruți told a news conference hosted by IPN.

The research evaluated the work of Prime Minister Dorin Recean and President Maia Sandu and their involvement in the crisis period.

"The figures do not differ much. The lowest grades are taken by Missis President – 50% gave her grades of 1 to 4. But Missis President is also the one who gets most of the highest grades. 15% gave her grades of 9 and 10. Concurrently, the highest grades for the Government or for Prime Minister Recean represent only 7%," said Doru Petruți.

According to the survey, three-quarters of the citizens believe that there was a delay in taking the required measures. On the other hand, 18% consider that the authorities prepared in advance to manage the crisis.

In the context of rising prices for natural gas and electricity, people's expectations related to the economic and social evolution are harsh and pessimistic. 51% of those interviewed believe that the economic and social situation will worsen in the Republic of Moldova. A third hope that it will stabilize and fewer than one in ten respondents expects that the economic and social situation will improve in the immediate future.

The sociopolitical barometer was conducted between January 16 and February 1 and covered a sample of 1,130 people from 86 localities. The margin of sampling error is ±3%.

The sponsor of the survey is the Romanian press trust Independent News.
