Almost 400 persons deceived by real estate swindlers

Approximately 400 persons were cheated by real estate swindlers who promised them new apartments. Nineteen legal cases have been started over embezzlement in large amounts since 2004. There were appropriated 225,000 lei, Deputy Prosecutor General Andrei Pantea said Tuesday, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. The prosecutors are dealing with only three legal cases. Four cases are examined by the Center for Combating Corruption and Economic Crime, while another 12 – by the Ministry of the Interior. The examination of several of them nears completion. “The economic entities took large sums of money from the persons. The money was used for personal purposes. Even police officers became involved in such illegal schemes,” said Andrei Pantea. According to him, the Prosecutor General’s Office will take an active part in the amendment of the legislation on home loans and in compensating the deceived persons.
