More than 28,000 private individuals donated 2% of the income tax paid last year in favor of public and religious organizations, which is almost 6.5 million lei. This year there are almost 400 beneficiaries, IPN reports, with reference to the State Tax Service.
Almost 3,000 nominations with donations of over 862,000 lei weren’t accepted either because the beneficiaries weren’t included in the relevant register approved by the Ministry of Justice or because the taxpayers who intended to donate the 2% had overdue income taxes or for other reasons.
Under the law on public associations, or the so-called 2% Law, private individuals can direct 2% of the income tax paid to the state to a nongovernmental or religious organization.
