The persons who were conferred orders, medals or other state awards, but who didn’t reach retirement can receive allowances for them only based on a decision of the competent ministry or the creation unions. The given bodies decide if they can pay this money as a bonus to salary or in a different way, depending on the budget. No additional decision is needed in case of pensioners. The transfers are made automatically.
Vladimir Bogdan, head of the State Awards Service, has told IPN that there were no cases when somebody sued the institution for not offering allowances for state awards. For honorific titles and medals, the allowance is 25 lei, for orders – 50 lei, while for the order “Stephan the Great” and the Order of the Republic – by 500 lei. If a person has two or more awards, the allowances are offered for the highest award.
The state awards are provided based on the relevant regulations. One of the highest awards was given to a sixth grader, who rescued another child from drowning. He received the medal “For bravery”.
According to the National Social Insurance House, almost 20,000 persons receive nominal state allowances for special merits towards the state.
In Moldova there are conferred seven types of state awards, five types of medals, and seven types of honorific titles.
