The Government at its sitting today indefinitely postponed the allocation of 67.7 million lei for increasing the equity of the unfinished Chisinau Arena, as Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița wanted to learn more from the Prosecutor General’s Office about the progress made in investigating the controversial project, IPN reports.
Gavrilița has recalled that in 2019 the Sandu Government sent the PGO a dossier to help prosecutors investigate the project, which she says was “clearly initiated with the purpose of embezzling taxpayers’ money”. Two years have passed and the prime minister wants to know how the probe has progressed and what has been done to bring those responsible to account.
Another reason for the postponement is the fresh appointment of a new director at the Public Property Agency. Natalia Gavrilița praised Eugeniu Cozonac as a competent and honorable person, adding that it made sense to allow the new director some time to examine the National Arena case and make recommendations.
An ambitious and costly project still in development, the Chisinau Arena needs an additional 5 million euros to become operational, by Ziarul de Gardă estimates.
