The initiative of MP Vladimir Turcan, the leader of the United Moldova Party, to set up a special commission for the amendment of Article 78 of the Moldovan Constitution didn't find endorsement with the parliamentary majority. The Alliance for European Integration argued that there is no need to hurry with the adoption of this project, since the modification of Art.78, which regulates the election of the president, is one of the concern of the already existing Commission for constitutional reform, which was established through presidential decree, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to Turcan, the parliamentary commission that he proposed could be composed of 11 members, including himself; the other seats could be distributed among the parliamentary factions. The leader of the United Moldova Party thinks that his proposal is the only solution to the political stalemate in Moldova. “The parliamentary parties are obliged to find, within the shortest period of time, solutions that would prevent political crises from repeating themselves”, Turcan told Parliament. He called on the lawmakers to display political courage and dissolve the legislative, since the presidential elections failed repeatedly. At the same time, he argued that if the current parliament manages to modify Art.78 through consensus, the amendment will be valid for the next legislative as well. Democrat MP Dumitru Diacov suggested that the purpose of this initiative was merely to make publicity for Turcan's party. MP Veaceslav Untila, the leader of the European Action group, said he saw no reason for setting up such a commission, since there were enough experts in the commission established through presidential decree that could handle that task. The leaders of the Alliance for European Integration asked Turcan to have patience until the project is discussed within factions.
