All 1,969 polling stations arranged for the general local elections have opened at 07.00. By 08.30, the voter turnout has exceeded 53 thousand, almost 2% of the number of voters on the lists, IPN reports.

At a press briefing, Dorin Cimil, the Chairman of the Central Election Commission, has mentioned that for the mayoral position 3,761 persons are running, while for the 11,580 councillor’s mandates - 50,410 persons. Polling stations are open until 21.00. The first preliminary results are to be presented at 22.00.

For the local elections, more than 7.8 million ballots were printed, of which 6.1 million in Romanian.

Voters shall vote with the identity card, the ID supplementary sheet confirming the holder’s domicile or residence on the territory of the polling station, or other documents, such as the temporary identity card, containing the mention regarding the holder’s Moldovan citizenship and domicile, the service card for the military on compulsory service, the booklet issued by the Civil Service Centre for persons engaged in the civil service (alternative).

Election campaigning is strictly forbidden today. Carrying out or reflecting activities or materials containing electoral campaigning bias and electoral contenders’ appearance on TV or radio programs are not allowed.
