All the intensive care beds available in Chisinau are occupied, the head of the General Social Assistance and Health Division Tatiana Bucharski stated in the ordinary meeting of officials of municipal services and divisions, IPN reports.

The functionary noted there are now 706 persons infected with COVID-19 in the municipal hospitals. Of them, 208 are in a serious state and six of them were intubated.

“The municipal hospitals’ total capacity for patients with COVID-19 is now of 927 beds. Last week we increased the capacity by 60 beds and continue to look for additional areas for extension, together with the Ministry of Health,” stated Tatiana Bucharski.

She noted that a large number of children have been recently hospitalized with pneumonia. Only the children younger than seven confirmed with COVID-19 are mandatorily hospitalized. The others, if they do not have clinical signs, are treated at home under the strict supervision of the family doctor.

The functionary also said that over 16,000 cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in Chisinau so far and almost 600 of these involve healthcare workers. The death toll from COVID-19 in the capital city stands at 350. “We continue to be concerned about the spread of COVID-19 in the municipality of Chisinau. The data show a continuous rise,” she stated.
