The sportsman of the Chisinau Taekwondo Club “Stolas Leukas” Alexei Tentiuc has won a gold medal at the World Taekwondo Championship held in Pyongyang, North Korea, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“We had seven representatives at the championship that brought together athletes from 120 countries. Moldova is among the 25 countries that won medals. Alexei Tentiuc became champion in the power breaking event. He broke a maximum number of 30cm×30cm boards without traumas,” the head of the Club “Stolas Leukas” Vasile Filat said in a news conference on Thursday.
He also said that the Ministry of Youth and Sport did not help the athletes to prepare for the championship. “We asked for a gym to train, but our request wasn’t granted. We trained in gymnasiums rented in schools and in parks,” said Vasile Filat.
World champion Alexei Tentiuc said he has trained from the age of 14 and deserved seeing Moldova’s flag hoisted and anthem played at the championship. “I was 14 when I went to the Club. It helped me develop as a sportsman and as a man. We are like a family there. Now I live in Afghanistan, where I train children. Initially I worked with vagrant children and prevented them from joining the Taliban,” said Alexei Tentiuc.
Athletes of the Sports Club “Stolas Leukas” also won a gold and three silvers at the world championship in Malaysia, 32 medals at the Eurasian championship in Kazakhstan’s Almaty, and 21 medals at the Eurasian championship in Cyprus.
