“Where there’s no justice, nothing is”, Alexandru Tanase, Minister of Justice, declared this Saturday at the meeting organized by the Jurists’ Union from Moldova on Jurist’s Day, Info-Prim Neo reports. Alexandru Tanase mentioned that being a jurist is a noble work, of high social prestige, but at the same time one that requires a lot of responsibility. It applies for everyone who has juridical studies, from prosecutors and lawyers, up to parliamentarians and political figures. “People contact us, the graduates of law schools, who have embraced the job of jurist, when they have problems, when they need help and seek justice. The people’s trust in all of the state’s institutions depends on how we perceive and fulfill our duty”, highlighted the minister. Gheorge Avornic, chairman of the Jurists’ Union from Moldova, declared that nothing is perfect, and problems pop up all the time, especially in the Moldovan justice system. The most important thing, in his opinion, is that there is a tendency to reform the justice system. Present at the event, the interim president of Moldova, Mihai Ghimpu, mentioned that justice isn’t an abstract idea, a pretext for debate or theoretical polemics. On the contrary, it must be a continuous presence, benign for the society’s progress. “A democratic state cannot exist if the jurists are being manipulated by politicians. People can withstand different burdens, but nobody can withstand injustice, the breaking of the law or other general human values. Under these circumstances, the judiciary system, through its importance and activity, receives an increasingly important role in society”, underlined the president. The “Jurist’s Day” is celebrated on October 19 in Moldova.
