Things in Moldova’s justice sector do not change because the ruling political class does not want this, the president of the Constitutional Court Alexandru Tanase said in the program “Public eye” on Noroc TV channel, IPN reports.

The judge said that nothing will change in the legal system until the current political class is in power. “We have the justice wanted by the political class. The ruling parties do not really want the justice sector to be reformed. They like the current state of affairs. It’s no use fighting corruption in justice if we do not root out corruption from the political sphere first,” he stated.

The president of the Constitutional Court noted there is a majority government coalition in the country consisting of the PLDM, PDM and PCRM. “The fact that they do not want to admit that the Communists are in power is like saying that it rains when it is sunny. There is a parliamentary majority that voted in the Government and this majority functions,” said the judge.

Asked about the possible amendment of the Constitution so that it allows for the direct election of the head of state, Alexandru Tanase assured that there is no need to modify the supreme law as there will be no political crisis. “The President was elected when the politicians decided this should happen. The so-called political crisis deriving from the non-election of the head of state was nothing else but a part of the game. I think in a year the head of state will be elected by the votes of the three parties of the government coalition, which will have the necessary 61 votes. I do not exclude the possibility that they already know who will be the President,” he stated.
