Minister of Justice Alexandru Tanase said he cannot be sure of the authenticity of the recording of the phone conversation between him and businessman Veaceslav Platon, which was broadcast by Jurnal TV,  as the discussion took place several years ago. In a posting on Facebook, the ex-president of the Constitutional Court said he has known Veaceslav Platon since they were members of Parliament and they had telephone conversations. According to him, the content of the discussion, as regards his statements, reveals nothing interesting if only the fact that the discussion was held, IPN reports.

“In the given situation, another aspect seems more important to me. We all live in a country where no one is sure of their private life, individual freedom and other rights inherent in a democratic society. In fact this was the main argument for which I gave up the quiet life ensured by advocacy and accepted the position of minister of justice: I think this country needs profound reforms so that the people live without fear and no one is afraid to be unreasonably arrested, illegally wiretapped and deprived of property, tortured, etc.” stated the minister.

Alexandru Tanase said the Ministry works on a number of bills that refer to many interests in justice. “Consequently, trying to answer the question: who will benefit from a campaign to denigrate me, I reach the logical conclusion that explanations should be looked for namely in this area, as to why these discussions were made public now,” he stated.

According to the minister, the publication of illegal wiretaps is as immoral as the wiretapping itself. Practice shows that evil and malicious goals are pursued by such acts most of the times.

A phone conversation of 2015 between businessman Veaceslav Platon and the then president of the Constitutional Court Alexandru Tanase was made public by Jurnal TV channel in the evening of March 9. This reveals who benefitted from and who managed the banking fraud. Veaceslav Platon said the then governor of the National Bank Dorin Dragutanu took part in the banking fraud and he had evidence of this. The businessman also said that no one is looking for the stolen money.
