The de-politicization and rehabilitation of the police are among the top priorities of the Ministry of the Interior, Minister Alexandru Jizdan said in the talk show “Fabrika” on Publika TV channel, IPN reports.

“They asserted that reforms were being done at the Ministry of the Interior, but exerted political influence meanwhile and professionals were removed from the system. There were employed persons based on political criteria. We want to depoliticize the institution. There will be no political pressure in the selection of personnel. I will be very attentive to applicants’ capacities,” stated the minister.

Alexandru Jizdan considers the image of the police can be rehabilitated by dialogue with the population and by changing the mentality of police officers. “We must change the mentality of the police so as to offer services of a high quality to society. It will be an accomplishment if the people change their attitude to the Ministry of the Interior. We expect the population will be more receptive to all the problems. When the people report the offences that they know, it will be easier to ensure security,” he stated.

The minister admitted that the police are affected by corruption. “There is corruption in the police force and we must admit it and tell society about this. If we do not openly admit to the existence of corruption, it means that we do not want to fight it. The case of corruption at the Common Monitoring Center showed that not all the police officer realize the necessity of fighting corruption among them,” he said.
